Rajasthan Winter Festivals

Winter Festivals at Rajasthan

Best time to experience Rajasthan is in the winter months of November to March. Apart from the hospitable weather, you have many festivals which bring alive the spirit of Rajasthan.

In Bikaner, you have the camel festival (30 - 31st December 2009) where you can see Camels dancing and performing acrobatics. If you are lucky, you can be part of the panel that selects the best breed of the year.

Jaisalmer celebrates the annual Jaisalmer desert festival between 28 - 30th January 2010. Desert festival is all about desert culture, folk dance and camel race. There are interesting events like the competition to select the man with the best moustache. Not be missed during the festival are the musical performance by folk singers under the moonlit sky at the sand dunes of Sam.

Be sure to be at Bharatpur for Braj festival between 2nd and 4th February 2010. Braj festival celebrated before Holi is famous for the Raslila dance performed by the villagers with traditional gaiety. Keep you calendar free on 28th Febrauary for the elephant festival at Jaipur.

The other important winter festival is the Mewar festival at Udaipur celebrated between 18 -20 of March 2010. A procession of colourfully attired women, carrying images of the goddess to the Gangaur Ghat of the Lake Pichhola is the major highlight. Songs, dances and fireworks display mark the festivities.
