Bhati Rajput ruler Rawal Jaisal, after whom the city finds its name, founded Jaisalmer in 1156 AD. It is on the extreme western edge and just 160 Kms away from Pakistan. In the bygone days, Jaisalmer was on the key caravan route that linked India to Middle East.
Key attractions : Jaisalmer Fort, Palace of Maharawal, Fort Palace Museum (open 9 AM - 6 PM), Lakshmikant temple, seven Jain temples with exquisite sculpture are key attractions of Jaisalmer. Jaisalmer fort is built of yellow sandstone and has a distinct golden hue and hence, the name of "Golden City" to Jaisalmer. At sunset the fort looks lovely and inspired poet Rabindranath Tagore to compose Sonar Kila
Camel Safari: No visit to Jaisalmer is complete without the camel safari. The camel safari will tak you to Sam Dunes or the more isolated Khuri.
