Lake Pichola is the star attraction at Udaipur. Almost all popular Hotels are on the banks of the Lake and restaurants on the roof top of these hotels offer spectacular views of the lake. Lake has two island palaces - Jag Niwas and Jag Mandir. Jag Niwas Palace is now the Taj Group's Lake Palace Hotel and entry is prohibited unless you stay at the hotel or atleast dine in their restaurant. Jag Mandir is opened to public and is accessed by boat. Boat rides around the lake is highly recommended and they start from Bansi Ghat - Jetty near the City Palace.
City Palace complex, built of marble and granite was developed by succession of Rajput princes. The three mahals - Baari, Dilkush and Moti, the Suraj Gokhada, beautiful peacock Mosaics are the highlights of this complex. The complex also houses the city palace museum, which has some beautiful paintings of Mewar School of painting. Close to the palace are Jagdeesh temple and Sahelion-ki-Bari or the Garden of Maidens.
Crystal Gallery at the Fateh Prakash Palace has collection of crystal sofa sets with handrest and frames, King size beds, chairs, perfumr bottles etc. Maharana Sajjan Singh ordered the collection from Birmingham manufacturers F. and C. Osler Company. Unfortunately, the king died before the collection arrived and the collection was never opened for a century. It is on public display only since 1994.
Other key attractions include Sajjan Garh, Vintage car museum and Shilp Gram. For spectacular views of the city and sunset, a visit to Sajjan Garh (Monsoon Palace) built on Banswara hills is recommended. Vintage Car Museum is housed in the original Palace Garage around 3 Kms from the city palace. There is a Garden Restaurant serving authentic Rajasthani thali in the same complex. Shilp Gram is a Rural Arts and Crafts Complex, which depicts the lifestyles of the folk and tribal people of Rajastan. It is situated 3 kms west of Udaipur near the Havala village
